Change the world

WHAT IS SI?

SI is designed to support historically difficult modules. SI never replaces lectures.  There are regular scheduled out-of-class SI sessions weekly. SI sessions are led by trained students called SI leaders.  These students have successfully completed the same module.  They are friends not lecturers. SI Leaders do not teach but help the group towards understanding the module material.  Bring your own lecture notes, your textbook, and your questions. Attendance is free.  For more information on SI click here: https://si.mandela.ac.za/

SI SESSIONS AND ATTENDANCE

SI SESSIONS

SI sessions never replace lectures. SI Leaders rely on you to bring questions after you have attended the lectures.  During sessions students help each other under the guidance of the SI Leader. SI sessions give you a chance to ask what you did not understand in the lectures. SI sessions do not replace the personal study time and effort you need to put into the module. For more information on SI session times for your module click here: https://si.mandela.ac.za/SI-Sessions/SI-Session-Times-Venues

WHO SHOULD ATTEND SI?

Anyone registered for a module where SI is offered may attend.  Attendance is voluntary. However, past research has shown that it is more beneficial to attend SI regularly. SI is not just for students who struggle but for anyone who wishes to stay up to date with the work.  Therefore, don’t wait until you are overwhelmed or fail. Attend from the first session.
